I International Conference "Comprehensive treatment of plasma cell dyscrasias in 2012"
Krakow, Saturday, 9 September 2012
On 9 September 2012 at 3 p.m., the Stary Hotel in Kraków at Szczepańska Street 5 hosted about 40 people who had accepted an invitation from the “Myeloma Treatment Foundation Centre” and the Kraków Branch of the Polish Society of Haematologists and Transfusionists. The conference was chaired by Prof. A. B. Skotnicki – Head of the Clinical Department of Haematology, Jagiellonian University Medical College in Kraków.
During the conference, Prof. Morie A. Gertz presented in a very interesting way the latest diagnostics and treatment of amyloidosis, Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia and multiple myeloma. It turns out that the Polish therapeutic standards still significantly differ from the American practice.
The meeting was attended by: haematologists, medical representatives, biologists, patients and other people interested in the subject of multiple myeloma. The lectures were followed by a lively discussion led by Prof. A. Skotnicki. The discussion panel was attended by Prof. Sebastian Giebel from Gliwice, Prof. Tomasz Stompór from Olsztyn, Prof. Jacek Roliński from Lublin, Krzysztof Jamroziak, MD, PhD from Łódź, Prof. Ryszard Drożdż from Kraków and Artur Jurczyszyn, MD, PhD from Kraków.
I International Conference aimed to update our knowledge of modern diagnostics and treatment of plasma call dyscrasias in 2012, and to optimise the treatment of patients in accordance with the global standards.
Honorary patrons of the Conference included: Pulse of Medicine magazine and the rynekzdrowia.pl and konsylium24.pl portals.
The conference was connected with the promotion of the book (Volume III) entitled “Multiple myeloma – clinical cases,” which was presented to every participant of the meeting. I hope that this conference will significantly contribute to the deepening of knowledge to treat patients in the best possible way.
